A Note about Accolades

"Great wines can get lost in large judgings but poor wines don’t consistently collect accolades so for a while it was fun collecting boxes of trophies, gold, silver or bronze medals, and all sorts of awards but it became like taking candy from a baby and meaningless after a while. With the new focus on convenient direct sales, in 2009 Fanucchi Vineyards is now entering a few publicly visible competitions particularly if they provide an opportunity to meet consumers personally. Also,  despite the fact we’ve not built tight relationships with any particular wine chronicler many have written Fanucchi Vineyards into their books, magazines, & various other media  & to satisfy those who are interested, some of this rich history is assembled under the Trousseau Gris & Old Vine Zin accolades & Reviews buttons.”

“When I was new to ‘serious’ wine tasting I took a night class at the Santa Rosa Junior College. On the very first class, before the teacher ‘taught’ us anything, he engaged the class of about 50 novices in two blind judgings.  With out reveling what they were, 10 white wines & later 10 red were lined up in front of us. He had us rate them Gold, Silver, Bronze, or no award. Then he tallied up the scores & rated them accordingly. It turned out they were Gold, Silver & Bronze medal winning wines that had just been professionally judged for the Sonoma County Harvest Fair & we had overwhelmingly ranked all 20 wines just as the pros!”
