As a Fanucchi Vineyards "Fan"; "Groupie"; "Coinsurer";... One who has had at least one taste & has enough interest to still go through the torture of navigating through this web site you wouldn't be surprised to know that shortly after I started my own brand there was a time when I did enter all the top 12+ Wine competitions & that even with only 2 wines per year not only did I collect GOLD MEDALS, BEST OF CLASS HONORS, & BEST OF SHOW TROPHIES, But both wines on multiple occasions were listed the most awarded wines in their categories for the year!
Since some folks like to see a medal or two & for the fun of it, I am now entering a few competitions. In the summer of 2005 I entered 2. -The CA State Fair was truly for the fun of it & every Fanucchi Vineyards Entry Took A medal!!!
Also The last 2 Falls I entered the highly competitive local Sonoma County Harvest Fair with the 2000, 2001, & 2002 Old Vine Zinfandel & 2003, & 2004 Trousseau Gris... They all collected SILVER - Darn good in Zinfandel Country! & during the Tasting & Sales part of the Harvest Fair, the Trousseau Gris Sold out both years at a rate faster than many Gold medal winners!

For the State I also entered prerelease & Library categories. OF 7 ENTRIES FANUCCHI VINEYARDS MEDALED 7 TIMES!!!!!! They attach (100 scale) point scores & base the medals on that.
2002 Old Vine Zinfandel 98 points – DOUBLE GOLD
2000 Old Vine Zinfandel 91 points – SILVER
1998 Old Vine Zinfandel 90 points – SILVER (Library)
2001 Old Vine Zinfandel 88 points – SILVER
2003 Trousseau Gris 87 points – BRONZE & BEST OF CLASS OF REGION
2004 Trousseau Gris 85 points – BRONZE (this is still very young!)
1999 Old Vine Zinfandel 85 points – BRONZE (CA Distributor still has some)
May 2005: In the Prestigious Orange County Competition 3 out 4 entries medaled!

The Biggest wine "pendants" claimed that 1998 was a "poor" vintage & many people don't think of Zinfandel as a wine that ages. The fun think about competitions is that when the wine is in glasses in front of the judges they are "blind"!
