Tasting / Vintage Notes: In 2000 a “typical” cool Russian River Valley growing season again allowed us to slowly develop a concentrated fruit that retains it’s fresh acid balance! This is an excellent example from Fanucchi Wood Road Vineyard: “Thick”! Raspberry Fruit with plenty of rich fruit tannins with some pepper with gently integrated oak.

The Fanucchi Vineyards style is an aim to produce a balanced wine: while it can show the boldness of a concentrated Zinfandel the wine should be easily part of a wide range of meals rather than an over the top stand-alone-only beverage -- It goes back to my Tuscan roots wine just is part of the meal!

Opening” In the fall of 2004, while this wine is still maturing & will likely age well for many more years, it is one of our more immediately approachable vintages. (This one doesn’t need a Bordeaux style decanter like the 1999, or the 1997 did, when taking a glass out & giving it air, 2000 dose further develop even over 24 hrs! –By the way, I’ve received fantastic feed back from a number of folks who broke out some of the 1997 in the fall of 2004. Furthermore, about a year ago I heard a lot about 1995, but to go farther back, a friend I used to make home wine from the same Fanucchi Wood Road Vineyard, in the late 1980s found, in May of 2004, 6 bottles of our Old Vine Zinfandel from ’88 or ‘90 & he tells me the fruit is still fantastic!

….We now know from a consistent record this balanced style of Fanucchi Vineyards Old Vine Zinfandels are far more age-able than most & often tight or very tight when young so enjoy some now & save some for later! Salute!
